Bloomberg News
The Heico Corporation agreed yesterday to buy Teleflex Lionel-Dupont of Paris for about $64 million in class A stock. Heico said the purchase, along with the ground-support business it acquired when it bought Trilectron Industries in 1996, would give it the largest share of the highly fragmented industry of providing equipment to service aircraft while on the ground. Teleflex Lionel-Dupont had revenue of $146 million last year, while Heico had $64 million. Heico's class A shares rose 50 cents yesterday, to $28.

The Kemet Corporation, a maker of capacitors used in computers and other electronic equipment, said yesterday that it was cutting 1,440 jobs in the United States and Mexico because its sales were slowing down. Kemet said it would lay off 540 workers in the United States and 900 in Mexico in a move intended to reduce expenses by $14 million a year. The layoffs are the second in six months for Kemet, which has been under pressure because of the soaring cost of palladium and the slackening worldwide demand for electronic equipment. The company, based in Greenville, S.C., dismissed 1,000 workers in November. Its shares fell 65.625 cents yesterday, to $15.4375.
