Playboy Enterprises has agreed to buy three sex television channels -- Hot Network, Hot Zone and the Califa Entertainment Group -- for $28.3 million, exercising an option obtained when it purchased Spice Entertainment two years ago. Also, Playboy said it would buy Vivid TV networks for $41.7 million from V.O.D. The prices may rise by $12 million if the companies meet performance goals. Playboy, based in Chicago, also extended by 10 years a contract with Vivid Video, which gives Playboy television rights, video-on-demand and video-streaming rights.

The oil company, BP P.L.C. said yesterday that oil and gas production in the second quarter fell some 4 percent from a quarter earlier because of maintenance work at certain fields. Natural gas production from April to June declined to 8.57 billion cubic feet a day from 8.9 billion in the previous quarter, while oil supplies fell to 1.87 million barrels a day in the similar period from 1.94 million barrels, the company said. BP, based in London, has pledged to raise petroleum production by at least 5.5 percent this year.

AT&T Broadband has completed the sale of $2.6 billion of cable systems to three companies to pay off debt, which the company said was $47.5 billion on March 31. AT&T said it sold systems in St. Louis, Reno, Nev., and parts of Alabama to Charter Communications for $1.75 billion and a cable system in Sebastian, Fla., valued at $24 million. It also sold a system in Baltimore to Comcast for $518 million and one serving parts of Missouri to Mediacom Communications for $309 million. Charter is based in St. Louis, Mediacom in Middletown, N.Y., and Comcast in Philadelphia.

Arbitron Inc., which compiles radio and television ratings, has purchased the radio-audience-measurement service of Statistical Research Inc. for $25 million. Statistical Research, based in Westfield, N.J., operates a service that measures the size of the audience for commercials on 29 radio networks, Arbitron's chief executive, Stephen Morris, said.

Wal-Mart Stores has begun selling a disposable camera whose $6.84 price includes loading the developed photographs onto the Internet. When the single-use camera is returned to Wal-Mart for developing, the photographs are automatically loaded onto the Walmart.com Photo Center site, where the user can sign in and decide to order prints or share the pictures using e-mail.

The cosmetics maker L'Oréal has agreed to buy Revlon Inc.'s Colorama line of make-up and shampoo in Brazil for $55 million as L'Oréal expands in emerging markets. The Colorama line, introduced in 1976, includes Brazil's most popular nail polish. The cash purchase from Revlon, based in New York, includes a factory in São Paulo, the companies said.
